Players to compete in honour of champion

Kalgoorlie Miner - - SPORT -

The best Goldfields eight ball players are expected to flock to the Grand Boulder Hotel tonight for the Dax Wasley Summer Closed Singles competition.

Named in honour of the local champion who represented Australia at last year’s world titles, players must have played in three Thursday night meets during the Summer season.

Last year’s inaugural tourna- ment was taken out by veteran Jason Dimer who beat Brian “Beetle” Rennie in the final.

Nominations will be taken from 5.30pm, with matches set to begin at 6pm.

Meanwhile, in local domestic competition, Broken Hill 1’s recent strong form continued with a 9-8 victory over Tower.

Grand Blue and White both put in solid performances to chalk up victories over Miners Rest and Country Club 2 respectively.

Workers Club 2 opened their account defeating Grand Gold 11-6 in a result which puts them only one game outside the top eight.

No result was recorded between Broken Hill 2 and Country Club 1.

Summer eight ball will recommence on January 8 with the Grand Final to be played on Februaryuary 19.
