Students pick up new tricks

Kalgoorlie Miner - - CLASS ACT -

The rules were bent at Hannans Primary School last week, with skateboarding allowed for just a few hours during a visit from Skateboarding WA.

Students were treated to handson lessons by professional skaters and coaches during the Learn to Skate clinic on Tuesday.

Beginners were taken through the basics such as standing, balancing and rolling on the board, while others learnt how to Ollie, pivot and do other tricks.

Deputy principal Amanda Higgins said the group had visited last year and made a great impression, prompting the school to open its gates to skateboards once again.

“It is a great way for them to get active, learn a new skill and see if they like it,” she said.

“We would definitely look at having them come back again.”
