A bumper racing season continued last Sunday when a large crowd flocked to the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club.

Trainer Brett Mathews’ Western Blaze finished at the top of the field in the $40,000 Goldfields Tattersall’s Club Cup 2300m race.

The six-year-old gelding, with Joseph Azzopardi riding, was placed once in five previous starts, but appreciated a big drop in weight and a start from barrier three to win by a short head.

The action continues at KBRC tomorrow, with the first race starting at 1.18pm. Coolgardie Cup will follow on September 6.
