Big night for Pe­ga­sus

Pe­ga­sus Hockey Club marked its 40th an­niver­sary in style last week­end and named stal­wart An­drew Baines as its 11th life mem­ber.

About 100 peo­ple at­tended a cock­tail func­tion at the Kal­go­or­lie Golf Course as part of the oc­ca­sion.

Baines joined il­lus­tri­ous com­pany with fel­low life mem­bers An­drew Hoare, Keith Rowatt, Keith Cavazzi and Ge­off Hors­ley among the crowd.

Dave Hors­ley, who led the for­ma­tion of a new club called Pe­ga­sus when WASM with­drew from the Eastern Gold­fields Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion com­pe­ti­tion in the 1970s, also at­tended.

The other life mem­bers on Pe­ga­sus’ hon­our board in­clude Shirley Rowatt, Brian Rowatt, David Natt, Bruce An­gus and Gil John­son.

Since its for­ma­tion, Pe­ga­sus has stamped it­self as one of the power- house men’s teams of the com­pe­ti­tion.

A Pe­ga­sus women’s side was formed dur­ing Gold­fields hockey’s tran­si­tion to Lionel Street Sta­dium in 1989. Pe­ga­sus won its first A-grade women’s premier­ship in 2000.
