Kalgoorlie Miner - - NEWS -

State Liberal MP Robyn McSweeney is a surprise inclusion to speak at the Australian Society for Sport History forum at the Signpost Goldfields Racing Museum on April 2.

The Bridgetown-based MLC for South West will talk about her biography of early 1900s racing identity Albert Edmund Cockram, King of the Racecourse.

Mrs McSweeney’s great-grandfather, Cockram was at one time the most prolific importer of thoroughbred horses to WA as well as the only private owner of the Belmont and Goodwood racecourses before they were bought out by the State Government.

His English import, Poetical, won the Hannans Handicap in 1914.
