Aussie spirit prevails over bad weather

Kalgoorlie Miner - - NEWS -

Monday night’s deluge over Kalgoorlie-Boulder failed to dampen the spirits of the thousands of people who turned out to celebrate Australia Day at the Big Aussie Breakfast at Centennial Park.

Locals donned Aussie outfits and came with flags and memorabilia as children took laps around the park on the tram.

The day marked a new era for 28 residents who were presented with their Australian citizenship certificates.

The Boulder Rotary Club was awarded the Community Event or Group of the Year award for their 30th annual radio auction.

Former mayor Ron Yuryevich was chosen as the Citizen of the Year for his 19 years of service and the Mayoral Award went to East Kalgoorlie Primary School deputy principal Bernadette Delaney. Professor Odwyn Jones was included in the city’s Walk of Fame.

The city’s Rotary clubs raised more than $4000 for charity.
