Man charged over bushfire
A Victorian has been charged with setting off the fireworks which sparked a bushfire in Western Australia’s south that burnt 2100ha over 10 days.
The Manypeaks fire started at Normans Beach campsite about 10pm on January 1 and spread as far as Betty’s Beach campsite, destroying rare flora and fauna, and Western Power infrastructure.
A 24-year-old man has been charged with breaching duty as a person in charge of a source of ignition and not using reasonable care or taking reasonable precautions to avoid lighting a fire. AAP
