Man charged over bush­fire

A Vic­to­rian has been charged with set­ting off the fire­works which sparked a bush­fire in Western Aus­tralia’s south that burnt 2100ha over 10 days.

The Many­peaks fire started at Nor­mans Beach camp­site about 10pm on Jan­uary 1 and spread as far as Betty’s Beach camp­site, de­stroy­ing rare flora and fauna, and Western Power in­fra­struc­ture.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with breach­ing duty as a per­son in charge of a source of ig­ni­tion and not us­ing rea­son­able care or tak­ing rea­son­able pre­cau­tions to avoid light­ing a fire. AAP
