Cullen and Close are top of the zone
Coolgardie’s Harley Cullen was once again outstanding in Goldfields zone junior fire brigade action last weekend.
North Kalgoorlie brigade spokesman Graeme Campbell said Cullen took out first place in all the dry work events at the sub-junior competition at Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Goldfields Oasis playing fields.
Campbell said Cullen’s 15 points made him the sub-junior champion fireman, ahead of Esperance’s Brooke Willoughby and North Kalgoorlie’s Shenae Corney.
Esperance’s Aden Close was the junior champion fireman with 14 points, from Coolgardie’s Jayden Forward (nine points), with Esperance’s Gus Ferguson and Jono Crane, and Kambalda’s Armon Ritsre, all on six.
Coolgardie was best sub-junior fire brigade, and Esperance best junior brigade.
On an aggregate points basis, Esperance was best overall with 96 points, from Kambalda (92) and Coolgardie (81).
Campbell said there was an excellent turnout from all six brigades in the Goldfields zone, with 76 children competing and all performing well.
South Kalgoorlie hosted the competition.
The next event is the State Junior Championships at Fremantle’s Sir Gilbert Fraser Oval from November 24-25.
