POLICE charged a 40-year-old Orelia man after a chase in a stolen car on August 15. Officers tried to stop an Audi TT on Barrington Street in Bibra Lake at 5.40pm. Police allege the driver failed to stop and evaded them through various streets in Yangebup. A short time later, a tyre deflation device was set up on Wattleup Road in Hammond Park. However, the car continued to evade police through streets in Hammond Park and through to North Coogee. The car left the road and entered a park off Lucretia Circle in Coogee. It went down a flight of stairs and continued on through more streets. At this time, another tyre deflation device was deployed on Russell and Rockingham roads. The car continued through red traffic lights but eventually came to stop on Rockingham Road. Police said the driver fled from the car, but he was apprehended nearby. It will be alleged officers found methamphetamine on the man. The car was allegedly stolen from a residence in Piara Waters earlier this month. The man was charged with aggravated failing to stop, reckless driving, stealing a motor vehicle and possessing a prohibited drug. He is due to appear in court at a later date.
