Sweet six for dominant Sharks
IT was a super-sweet sixth premiership in a row for the Coastal Sharks reserve netball team recently.
Up against the West Coast Warriors in the biggest game of the season, the Warriors took the ascendancy and the lead early, but the Sharks fought back to take the lead 15-9 at the first break.
It remained a six-goal lead at halftime after some pressure defence from both sides, which continued well into the third quarter.
It was not until the final quarter when the Sharks began to take control and increase their lead, eventually taking out the game 55-43 and being crowned 2017 champions.
The Sharks’ Grace Parker dominated under the net, scoring 25 of 29 at 86 per cent, while Katie Swetman and Morgan Millar finished with strong shooting percentages of 79 and 78 per cent respectively.
Captain Rebecca Nitschke, who was voted the match MVP, said they were proud to secure the title again, citing strong team unity as one of the key factors. “It feels awesome,” she said. “We have such a strong bond, we’re a really united side.”
The Coastal Sharks netball region covers Fremantle, Rockingham, Mandurah and Peel.
