McDon­ald de­lighted with in­ter­na­tional win

PALM Beach res­i­dent Brett McDon­ald won gold at the re­cent Ca­noe Marathon World Cham­pi­onships and Mas­ters World Cup in South Africa.

McDon­ald (48) said he and his K2 part­ner Brett Green­wood are the 45- to 49-year-old world cham­pi­ons.

The duo beat the Euro­pean cham­pi­ons, who fin­ished with sil­ver.

McDon­ald was de­lighted with his in­ter­na­tional win.

Pre­vi­ously, he had com­peted in five na­tional cham­pi­onships, each time mak­ing the podium.

McDon­ald com­peted in triathlon for 15 years and be­came se­ri­ous about paddling seven years ago.

“I was into ad­ven­ture rac­ing and moved into paddling from there,” he said.

“I won the Avon Des­cent a few years ago.”

McDon­ald said he en­joyed paddling be­cause it was a form of med­i­ta­tion.
