Bombers crash land at Seymour

-

KYABRAM’S perfect netball season was broken on Saturday with the Bombers going down 30-41 to Seymour. However the loss didn’t come without a fight. Amelia Brock got on a run in the first term, piling on 12 of her side’s 15 goals for the term. Accurate goaler Emily Atkinson got the call up to take on Lees’ position in attack, but her time shooting was short-lived, with Lees forced to make changes during the term. Atkinson was sent into defence to take up the challenge against Brock and her move there worked to lessen the goalers influence. Lees said her side was slow to match Seymour’s intensity in the first five minutes, allowing its opposition to get the jump early. After the Bombers lost the first term 15-7, they matched the Lions midcourt of Sarah Douglas, Casey Adamson and Rosie O’Sullivan and it showed on the scoreboard. Both sides put on seven goals in the second term, with Seymour narrowly outscoring Kyabram by two goals in the third. The Bombers nearly won the final term, but late goals to Brock and Ellie O’Sullivan blew the margin out to 11 goals. Lees said her team went into the match confident they could get the job done, but were unfortunately undermanned. Lees said all players put in on the day but gave a special mention to Gemma Osbourne. ‘‘Gemma is coming ahead in leaps and bounds for her first A-grade season,’’ she said. ‘‘She was up against arguably the best player in the league on the weekend, Casey Adamson, and she held her own.’’ Lees said the Bombers were now looking to Saturday’s game against 5th placed Shepparton United. ‘‘They’ve improved throughout the season,’’ she said. ‘‘We know we have to put out a really good performance to get over the line playing them.’’
