The rise has been necessary due to steep increases in materials and wages!

The new St Augustine’s School building complex at Kyabram is now open. The complex, built at a cost of $140,000 is a welcome addition to classroom space at the school. The modern building comprises five teaching rooms, plus withdrawal, storage and wet rooms. There is also a large shared room in the centre of the building which may be used by any of the five classes.

Outstandin­g teenage golfer Graeme Brown is the August Sport star of the Year quest. Brown earned his title by winning Goulburn Valley Championsh­ip and also playing No. 1 in the GV side which won the teams championsh­ip at Melbourne Country Week. Hailed as the best male golfing product of the Valley View Club, Brown is presently doing a science course at Melbourne University.

20 years ago Kyabram Apex Club recently held its fifth around the Campfire night of bush verse and yarns at the Commercial Hotel. More than 70 people enjoyed what has been described as the best night so far. Tall yarns and great verse were the order of the program. “Skew Wiff” Watt was compere and the local bush verse group talent was complement­ed by three visiting poets and yarn spinners. Harry’s poem about the “Huntsman Spider” loose in his bedroom was a ripper. Best poet went to local boy Mick Coventry. Mick’s poem, The Last Parade, was a winner.

Kyabram Fauna Park will receive $390,000 from the State Government to establish Australia’s leading environmen­tal resource centre and pursue an extra slice of the country Victorian tourism market. Park developers have identified up to 15 potential markets to substantia­lly increase visitor numbers to the Fauna Park and wetlands and provide increased regional benefits.

Grand final fever has hit Kyabram as the Bombers prepare to tackle warm favourites Tatura on Sunday in the GVL Grand Final. It is Kyabram’s first Grand Final appearance since 1977 and the chance to win its first flag since Peter Lyon’s charges carried off the premiershi­p in 1975 against Euroa. Kyabram Football club president Tony Hansen yesterday urged all supporters and townspeopl­e to get behind Kyabram’s bid to win its first flag for 21 years.

The Bomber camp was ecstatic on Tuesday evening when the GVL tribunal cleared one of its key players, Morrison Medal winning rover Benny Gugliotti, on a charge arising out of last Sunday’s rugged preliminar­y final clash with Shepparton. Gugliotti said this week he was greatly relieved to be playing in Sunday’s grand final.
