Car chase continues

Kyabram Free Press - - NEWS -

THE hunt goes on for Kyabram’s world first miniature car.

After last week’s update in the Free Press former Kyabramite Gill (Gjalt) Steendam has had more feedback from those who remember the car well.

It was built for Gill’s brother Jackie by their father Jasper in 1959 and is claimed to be the first 24-volt system powered vehicle in the world and a forerunner to the motorised scooters of today that many people use to get about on.

Gill still believes the car may be in the Goulburn Valley area after it was passed onto Shepparton man Russell Hunt after Jackie lost his battle with a rare form of muscular dystrophy in 1963.

‘‘I know Russell (Hunt) handed it on to another disabled kid in the Shepparton area after he had it so we just have to find out who that kid was and we’ll be a lot closer to finding it,’’ Gill said.

Given it’s a world first Gill wants to donate the car, if it’s still about, to the town of Kyabram as a special gift.

Anyone who might lead to the finding of the car can phone Gill on 0407 327 047 or email jennawarra@gmail.com
