FIRE brigades from Kyabram, Tongala and Wyuna responded to a grass fire on Palmer Rd, Ky Valley, on Saturday afternoon. The fire started from an illegal burn from the property owner, and burnt about an acre of grass land and several round hay bales. It took units 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. The police were called and subsequently the property owner has been interviewed. Kyabram Fire Brigade captain Mick Crompton said it was a timely reminder that restrictions were now in force and the cause of all fires would be investigated. ‘‘A reminder that anyone wishing to light a fire must seek permission from the local fire brigade and be in possession of a permit,’’ he said. Restrictions within the Campaspe Shire mean police will prosecute an individual lighting a fire without a permit. ‘‘With summer fast approaching, the chance of a major fire is increasing,’’ he said. ‘‘Everyone must be cautious to ensure the safety of themselves and their community.’’
