Lancaster group takes in Bendigo

-

LANCASTER Community Group’s September bus trip to Bendigo was a great day out for all involved.

Group member Margaret Bowers said the group visited several popular tourist destinations in the area and enjoyed lunch and some retail therapy.

“We first stopped for morning tea at Beechworth Bakery, then back on the bus for the trip to Bendigo’s iconic vintage Talking Tram and a visit to the gift shop,” she said.

“We were to go out to the Joss House Temple but because of work being done on the track we instead visited the tramway’s workshop and gift shop.

“It was very interesting learning that the depot was completed in 1903 for the operation of electric trams.

‘‘The first depot was constructed in 1890 near the railway station.”

After the depot, the group was back on the bus to the Bendigo Marketplace where everyone either had lunch or shopped until 3pm then headed home after an enjoyable day.
