Victoria bucks the growth trend

MORE JOBS, robust retail spending and ongoing construction activity have underpinned Victoria’s position as the only state with above-trend economic growth and momentum, according to the latest ANZ Stateometer report. The ANZ report echoes the October Commsec State of the States report, which showed Victoria was leading the nation in annual economic growth. Commsec reported a 5.4 per cent rise in economic growth, thanks to rising population, retail spending and construction work. Construction activity, highlighted in the latest ABS building figures, shows Victoria’s ongoing approvals for both new houses and commercial projects continues to out-perform the other states.
