The longest serving employee of the Kyabram Cannery has claimed a record this week.

Mr Frank Walsh’s main claim to fame at the Kyabram Cannery is that since the retirement of his brother-in-law Mr Syd Gregson last week, he is now the longest-serving employee of the Kyabram Cannery.

Mr Gregson held the record at 45 years of continuous service until his retirement.

But Mr Walsh, the new recorder holder, was hotly pressing Syd for the honour at 43 years.

Arriving in cold, dark Sweden just over a year ago was a bit of a shock for 18 year old Ingrid Hilton on her recent rotary exchange.

Ingrid wasn’t prepared for how cold it would be on arrival and was wearing only sandals on her feet to greet her first host family.

Ingrid says the trip to the car from the terminal was an adventure in itself with her family having to hold her up and she slipped all over the icy road.

But Ingrid says she adjusted fairly quickly to the cold Scandinavian conditions and was fortunate in having a host family that had a solarium in the house and was able to keep nice and warm during her stay.
