Park turns totally turtle

Kyabram Free Press - - NEWS -

GET ready to emerge from your shell – because Kyabram Fauna Park is going turtle.

The park’s upcoming Discover the Turtle day will allow locals to meet a variety of turtles up close and personal while chatting to experts from Turtle Australia.

The day also promises a whirlwind of turtle-themed activities including a scavenger hunt around the park and crafts.

Plus if you are 15 years or under, dress up like a turtle and you’ll get in for free.

Secretary of the fauna park committee Georgia Johnstone said the day will offer fantastic – and educational – holiday fun.

“I have little kids so to have a local school holiday activity is amazing,” Ms Johnstone said.

“Because it’s quite chilly at the moment the park also tends to be a bit quieter – so we hope this event will bring in more people who can see all we do here.”

If hanging out with turtles for a day doesn’t tickle your fancy, the fauna park has a range of other activities planned for the school holidays.

As part of Ky in July, locals will have the chance to walk through the bird aviary, pet a koala and feed a flying fox or a kangaroo.

It will also be worth keeping an eye out for quolls getting a feed in the mornings and resident Major Mitchell’s cockatoos Rose and Floyd flying around the park in the afternoon.

The Fauna Park’s cafe´ will also be getting in the Ky in July spirit, offering a free makeyour-own fridge magnet kit with each kids meal.

Discover the Turtle will be held all day Thursday July 6.
