Bishop gives blessing
A SOLEMN blessing and the official opening of two new classrooms at St. Augustine’s School took place on Sunday afternoon, November 20th 1960, by His Lordship, Most Rev Dr B D Stewart – Bishop of Sandhurst.
Ceremonies commenced in the church, after which the pupils of St Augustine’s formed a guard of honour for the bishop, officiating clergy and altar boys as they moved to the school where the blessing took place.
Father Kavanagh OSA was chairman for the speeches, together with many guests including the mayor and mayoress of Kyabram – Cr & Mrs T Atkins. The children were seated on KY fruit boxes for the occasion.
The new additions to the school consisted of two classrooms and an entrance corridor the full length of the building, making a total of 5 classrooms for the school. The builders, McCormick & Fitzsimmons, were highly praised as was the architect, Mr Donegan, whose services were free of charge.
A large crowd inspected the new classrooms, and were served afternoon tea in the old rooms.
