Numurkah just too strong for Ky
THE third-round match of the Association Croquet Pennant was played at Kyabram last week against Numurkah.
In the doubles, Kyabram’s Helen Hastie and Anneliese Metzger had a close encounter with the Numurkah pair of Louise Vale and Lea Grant. The visitors made the first move to run hoops until Hastie got in and made a 9-hoop break. This gave the home side a good lead, which they were able to hold throughout the game taking the set 14 hoops to 12.
The first singles between Hastie and Vale proved a real contest. Vale made a break of 9 hoops then Hastie retaliated with another 9-hoop break. The lead was in Vale’s favour throughout the game, but with another 7-hoop break Hastie came within a hoop of her opponent. In the dying minutes Vale managed 2 more hoops to take the set 19 hoops to 16.
The second singles between Metzger and Grant started out an even contest but as time went along Grant proved too strong and won the set 19 hoops to 7.
Numurkah won the day 2 games 50 hoops to Kyabram 1 game 37 hoops.
