Maz’s amazing raffle is ready

- By Lachlan Durling

AS RUSHWORTH prepares for a big Easter weekend, Maz McCallum at the Rushworth Pub is getting ready for one of their biggest fundraisers.

The annual Good Friday Appeal raffle is on for its 11th year — with a stack of prizes that have been donated.

And Maz is expecting a big turnout.

“It just grows and grows — it’s standing room only in the pub on the night,” she said.

“We’ve been donated a new motorbike and chainsaw, which has given us a bit of a head start for the auction, but for the other items we’ve been able to buy them at a discount and auction them off.

“Then on the night we’ll have people bring things that they’ve made for the auction.”

Luckily she’s not in it alone: Bob Ballantine is always on hand to assist.

“He helps out a lot and sells tickets relentlessly — he’s amazing,” she said.

The beers and the money will be flowing on the Friday night, and if it’s anything like last year there’s sure to be an outpouring of generosity.

“The community is very supportive, we raised $8000 in four hours — then you add to that a money tree and fundraising tins on the bar, we had another $1200,” she said.
