Kyabram Free Press - - NEWS -

CONGRATULATIONS are in order to Graham ‘Skew Wiff’ Watt who recently celebrated his 90th birthday.

Skew Wiff even got a mention on Macca’s ‘Australia All Over’ Sunday morning ABC radio program on the milestone.

Skew Wiff and his wife, Janice, live in a retirement village at Wauchope near Port Macquarie these days.

The former Kyabram nice guy and poet provided a highlight at the recent Kyabram community farewell to Ian and Julie Purdey by penning a poem on Purd, which was read out at the farewell. It went like this:

“PURD”. A story about a “Special Boy”, The very best yarn that you’ve heard, The story of a ‘Champion’ Bloke, The one that we all know as “PURD”.

Born at KY’s old B.N.A. In a year that brought much joy, (Yes! RUSSIA won the Melbourne Cup) And to Ern and Win – a BOY! Schooled at Ky – a likely lad, To Rosebud for a while, Then back to KY and the Free Press Days, And management with Style. Fifty-three years of constant work, As every-one here will know, Working hard on ‘Promotion’, And keeping ‘KY’ on the Go!’ YES! ‘Purd’ is quite an ‘urger’, Community-Wise he’s great, The Trotting Club and Legacy, To these he has lent his weight. The Hospital Committee – And ‘Sportstar of the Year’, And the Melbourne Cup Calcutta – Yes! ‘Purd’ has had no Peer. So to ‘Purd’ we say “We’ll miss you”, And to Julie and Family galore, From all of your mates in Kyabram, We wish you the “BEST” – and more. — Skew Wiff.
