By George, it was Booktacular!

Kyabram Free Press - - NEWS - By Michael Mattingly

AUTHOR of the You Choose series of books George Ivanoff was on deck last week to help officially open the Kyabram P-12 ‘Booktacular’.

The Booktacular, which ran from August 20-24, was the college’s biggest ever celebration of Book Week. It was organised and run by P-12 College library coordinator Jen Sargant.

Mr Ivanoff spoke to P-12 College Foundation students about how important – and fun – books can be.

“You are all so very lucky to have a full week of celebrating books,” he said.

“As an author people think I must have always loved books, but I haven’t.

“In fact, when I was your age, I was what they called a ‘reluctant reader’.”

The foundation students loved Mr Ivanoff’s quirky and energetic nature.

“But then, something changed, I found the ‘right’ book,” he said to them.

“It was called The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet.

“And I realised it wasn’t reading I didn’t like, I just hadn’t found the right book. So if any of you say you don’t like reading, I don’t believe you. You just haven’t found the right book.”

The week-long Booktacular concluded on Friday with the school’s Book Week parade.

YOU’RE BOOKED — P-12 principal Stuart Bott and author George Ivanoff jointly launched the school’s Booktacular.
