Seniors notes

Kyabram Free Press - - NEWS -

LAST week we went on the ‘Follow Your Rubbish Tour’ with Hilary Gregg, the waste education officer at the Greater Shepparton City Council. Our first stop was the Cosgrove Landfill, followed by Western Composting and then the Shepparton Resource Recovery Centre.

Everyone seemed to enjoy it and had lots of questions. The recycling crew were very knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. The highlight of the tour would have been the composting section, with all impressed by the scale of operations. Luckily there was not a lot of walking outside as the weather was not on our side, with occasional showers and a very cold wind.

We warmed ourselves up with a tasty meal at the Shepparton Club and made it back to the Cottage by 3pm. All in all a great day, long and cold but very informative and enjoyable. A special thanks to Wendy, bus driver extraordinaire who is filling in for Debra while she is on holidays in Sydney.

LOOKS like spring is close with blossoms out and hayfever symptoms abounding. Lets hope that the drought may break for our northern states and bring relief to the worried farmers. Winners at bowls last week were Betty Baker, Molly Sparks and Dave Coram. Card winners were Dorothy Anderson, Ian Stone and Molly Sparks. Games day will be on September 19 so hope many will come and enjoy. All memberships are now due. Get well wishes to any members in hospital or housebound. Our club’s birthday will be in October and Seniors Week will be coming up in that month also, so there will be plenty of activities to enjoy and participate in.
