We’re dyeing to see you

THE latest Town Hall exhibition, Dyeing to Stitch, features pieces from the local contemporary textile art group, Fibre and Thread.

Judith Roberts, who runs the group, saw an opportunity when a space in the Town Hall opened up.

“I saw a bit of a gap and we had a chat at one of our group meetings and pretty much came to the conclusion, right, let’s do this,” she said.

So the 15-member group got to work – dyeing, stitching, creating and threading.

“It was a little bit nerveracking as we came towards deadline, but everyone in the group came up with at least one or more pieces for the display.”

The group made it on time, and came up with something Judith said they should be very proud of.

“It is packed to the brim with pieces,” she said.

“We dye with a lot of natural materials, there is a lot of blue that comes from dyeing with indigo and there is also a lovely green that comes from dyeing with eucalyptus.

“There are even garments and all sorts of different things so I encourage people to come on down, they will not be disappointed.

“The whole exhibition is very vibrant and almost leaps off the wall at you when you walk in.”

Dyeing to Stitch opened on August 7 and will run at the Town Hall until September 29.
