THE Kyabram Golf Croquet team hosted top seeded side Deniliquin last Thursday, September, 6. It was a tough day with players experiencing four seasons in one match. At the start of play it was a cold but sunny morning with the forecast of strong winds and rain to come later in the day.
The match started early and by 11.30am all the singles had finished. The games are double banked, two games per court using two sets of different coloured balls, being played simultaneously.
Deniliquin got off to a strong start and were leading by six games and six hoops, after some well-contested games, only needing to win one of the doubles to claim the match.
The rain was threatening so it was decided to start the doubles while the weather was fine and stop for lunch when or if there was a shower.
Deni managed to win the first two games, cementing their match win for the day. However halfway through the second round thunder and lightning sent all players to the clubhouse, leaving the balls where they lay, for a late lunch. After a heavy shower, play recommenced, with Kyabram winning both remaining games.
Even though Deniliquin won convincingly on games, Kyabram’s hoops score was only five less over the 12 games.
Best players on the day went to Deniliquin’s Andy Davis and John Tainsh, both winning their singles and one doubles each. Kyabram’s Rayleen McDonald and Trudy Serafini both managed to win a singles and a doubles game. Match Results
