Kyabram Free Press - - NEWS -

POLICE are pleading with drivers to think before they get behind the wheel while on drugs.

It comes after Kyabram motorists are choosing to ignore road safety messages and continue to drive under the influence.

On September 12 police carried out Operation Surprise, a random drug testing sting which nabbed eight drivers in one night on our roads.

The operation was run again on September 20 — and police said the results of Operation Surprise weren’t all that surprising.

Between 6pm-2am, police performed 14 oral fluid tests, of which five returned a positive reading, all for methamphetamine.

The drivers included a 25-year-old Kyabram man, 31-year-old Stanhope man and a 31-year-old Mandurang man.

The other two drivers, a 26-year-old Kyabram man and a 19-year-old Tongala woman, refused to accompany police and will be charged.

The operation also resulted in two defective vehicle notices and 12 infringement notices for various traffic offences. Police said it was concerning to see these figures and expressed their concern for the safety of drivers. Operations will be ongoing.
