THE Waranga Ratepayers Association will receive support from Kyabram Town Council on a suggestion to set up a bus depot in central Melbourne for country and interstate bus services.

Council is to write to the Minister for Transport, Mr Nixon, asking for an investigation into the setting up of such a depot.

“Even Kyabram is considering a bus terminal in our small town,” Cr Vic Kuhle said, referring to Council plans for the Union Street building.

The idea from the Ratepayers Association received the nod from all councillors at the last meeting of Council.

The letter stated that the only depot at present was Wight’s Tourist Bureau and that was closed on the weekends. The nearest toilets are upstairs in an adjacent building and the taxi ranks are no longer near the bureau.

Cr Anne Adams moved that Council write to the Minister and Cr Kuhle seconded the motion.
