Tradies hit by spate of ute tool thefts

Kyabram Free Press - - NEWS -

THIEVES raided four cars in Kyabram last week, stealing $15,000 worth of tools.

The utes were parked in Allan, Waratah and Richards streets and Outram Ave overnight on Wednesday, September 19 when the thieves stole various items, including power tools, chainsaws and hand tools, from the unsecured trays and trailers.

‘‘It’s a reasonably substantial theft,’’ Sergeant James Scambler of Echuca police said. ‘‘Two of the owners were tradies so these tools are pretty pertinent to them. This is a reminder for people to make sure their cars and trailers are well secured and not to leave anything in view that attracts thieves.’’

Sgt Scambler said police were canvassing the area and attempting to find any CCTV footage. ‘‘If anyone saw anything suspicious overnight, I would urge them to come forward,’’ he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Kyabram police on 5853 1777 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
