Rotary steps up
THEY say good things always come in threes.
And that has turned out to be the case for three local groups who received a special donation from the Rotary Club of Kyabram at the hospital on Monday.
Rotary past-president Graham Warren presented cheques of $500 to members of the Kyabram RSL subbranch and the St Andrews Church, as well as a cheque for $1000 to Kyabram and District Health Services acting CEO David Edwards.
St Andrews church Monday night community meal coordinator Patti Harrison said she was grateful for the donation, which would help her group buy more food to feed in between 40 and 60 people each week.
‘‘These might be people who are lonely, or lost their partners, or are single mums, and they come from 5.30 to 7 to enjoy a beautiful two-course meal that is served by volunteers from the community,’’ Mrs Harrison said.
Kyabram RSL secretary Evelyn Cunningham said their money will go towards helping ex-servicemen or their widows with things like power bills or car registration.
‘‘They’re normally very hesitant to take money, because they feel it should go to someone else – but that’s exactly what it’s for,’’ Mrs Cunningham said.
‘‘We’re really thankful to Rotary for their support, which has been ongoing,’’ Mr Edwards said.
