Walsh promises to complete trail

Kyabram Free Press - - NEWS -

MEMBER for Murray Plains Peter Walsh was in Kyabram recently to announce The Nationals’ $430,000 plan to finish the Kyabram Walking and Cycling Trail.

If elected, The Nationals will close the loop for local walkers, runners and bike riders by helping complete the ‘missing link’ along Breen Ave, boosting community safety and encouraging locals and visitors alike to get active.

Mr Walsh said the current sections were completed in 2013, and this additional $430,000 would help finish the job.

‘‘The Kyabram Walking and Cycling Trail has been a boon for the community, helping local people stay active and giving visitors a unique way to see the town,’’ Mr Walsh said.

‘‘But with a missing link along Breen Ave, locals and visitors are forced onto the roadside to get to the next section of the track, which is a particular concern for families with young children.’’

The Breen Ave section will link with completed sections at Kyabram-Cooma Rd and Allan St, completing the trail’s loop.

The proposed final section would be jointly funded by Campaspe Shire and The Nationals.

‘‘In addition to encouraging locals to keep active, it will be a valuable tourist attraction once complete,’’ he said. ‘‘This will have a great economic benefit for a range of businesses and help showcase our region to visitors.’’
