‘‘The kids were good, we had fun playing a lot of sport at different schools, and just the friends I made – that was the best part,’’ she said. After finishing high school Ms Tranter started working as a receptionist at the Kyabram Free Press in 1967. Paul Easton was the editor, she said, with Jack Matthews on advertising and the indefatigable Gus Underwood at the news desk.
She left Kyabram after getting married in 1975 and now works in a retirement village based in Mandurah.
