SUE FABIAN awarded Golf NSW Life Mem­ber­ship

Sue Fabian, a found­ing Board Mem­ber of Golf NSW and proud mem­ber of Pen­nant Hills Golf Club has been awarded Life Mem­ber­ship of Golf NSW.

She is a tire­less vol­un­teer, a pow­er­ful ad­vo­cate for the game, a won­der­ful ad­min­is­tra­tor, and a ded­i­cated Board Mem­ber of Golf NSW. Mrs Fabian has been in­volved in golf at Club, State and Na­tional lev­els for al­most 20 years.

“I be­lieve strongly that golf is a game to be en­joyed by peo­ple of all ages and abil­i­ties,” Mrs Fabian says. “It’s a great sport, for the friend­ships it brings, and the com­mu­nity it builds.” Mrs Fabian be­gan her in­volve­ment in golf ad­min­is­tra­tion as a mem­ber of the As­so­ciates’ Com­mit­tee at Pen­nant Hills Golf Club in 1996. She be­came Sec­re­tary in 1997, and was elected President in 2000, a po­si­tion she held un­til 2003.

Sue was a voice for women’s golf through her in­volve­ment with Women’s Golf NSW (WGNSW), be­com­ing a Coun­cil Mem­ber to WGNSW in 1997 and again in 1999 un­til 2003. She was elected to the Board as a Di­rec­tor of Women’s Golf NSW in 2004. Her lead­er­ship skills were quickly recog­nised; she was elected President of WGNSW in 2009 and led that or­gan­i­sa­tion in the amal­ga­ma­tion of the Men’s and Women’s Golf gov­ern­ing bod­ies in 2010.

Sue is strongly com­mit­ted to the vi­sion of Golf NSW and worked tire­lessly on the amal­ga­ma­tion of the Men’s and Women’s bod­ies, serv­ing on sev­eral com­mit­tees in­clud­ing the WGNSW/NSWGA Merger Steer­ing Com­mit­tee, and the Joint State Rules Com­mit­tee. She was also Chair­man of the Con­sti­tu­tion Sub-Com­mit­tee be­tween 2005 and 2006.

Her fi­nan­cial acu­men and her abil­ity to lead, nur­ture, and de­velop strate­gies and poli­cies for growth of the game is highly re­garded. “I be­lieve gover­nance must be open, con­sul­ta­tive, ac­count­able and strate­gic,” she says.

Mrs Fabian has also worked tire­lessly in the field of Se­condary and Adult ed­u­ca­tion spe­cial­is­ing in Com­mu­ni­ca­tion. She has shared this skill nur­tur­ing and de­vel­op­ing the state’s tal­ented WGNSW and NSWGA ju­nior golfers at Tal­ented Ath­lete Camps.

At the time of writ­ing, Mrs Fabian is the Deputy Chair­man, and a found­ing Di­rec­tor of Golf NSW, po­si­tions she has proudly served in since 2010. She is also a Di­rec­tor of the NSW Golf Foun­da­tion, and the cur­rent Chair­man of the Golf NSW Gover­nance & Plan­ning Com­mit­tee.

She is a Na­tion­ally Ac­cred­ited Rules Of­fi­cial, and has of­fi­ci­ated at Men’s and Women’s Aus­tralian Opens, the Aus­tralian Ladies’ Masters, the Queen Sirikit Cup and World Am­a­teur Teams Cham­pi­onship in South Australia, and the NSW Men’s and Women’s Open Cham­pi­onships, as well as many other State and Na­tional events. She cur­rently serves with dis­tinc­tion as a mem­ber of the Golf Australia Coun­cil, and has pre­vi­ously been a mem­ber of the Golf Australia Cham­pi­onship and Course Rat­ing and Hand­i­cap­ping Com­mit­tees (2008-2009).

Mrs Fabian has served on a num­ber of not-for-profit Boards, and has worked as a con­sul­tant in Gover­nance, Strate­gic Plan­ning and Hu­man Re­source Man­age­ment; skills she has used to con­trib­ute to the devel­op­ment of Golf in NSW for al­most two decades.
