How to find your passion
Be the best you can be - new financial year is the perfect time for reassessment and goal setting
WELCOME to this week’s business and mindset insight. I’m so excited to answer a question from one of our readers, Sally.
We’re talking all about how to find and follow your purpose.
Carren, there’s loads of talk - blogs, posts, videos, discussions, etc - about following your passion leads you to your success, yet not a lot about HOW to find your passion. What
would be your three top How-To’s for finding one’s passion?
Great question to ask considering we’ve moved into a new financial year and for most, it’s a time of reassessment and goal setting.
My three how-to’s are these:
1. Believe that your life matters, and that you are an important contributor to the planet and the world around you. Really contemplate that you are on this earth, in your business, in your relationships and in your skin for a reason, otherwise you wouldn’t be here.
Having the self belief that your life has meaning, purpose and contribution is the biggest hurdle in this three-step process because most of us don’t really think about our value and what we have to offer the world. We just get stuck in our ruts and wonder why we feel so unfulfilled all the time.
2. Indulge in your desires. Your desires don’t come from nowhere, they come from somewhere. I’m talking about the desires that really light you up. The ones that give you goose bumps and the ones that leave you daydreaming about “what if”. We all know what it feels like to have a desire to do or create something and how it feels when we leave it unfulfilled. The desire doesn’t go anywhere, it just grows in intensity until we are so uncomfortable, we are almost forced to make a change in some way. Instead of putting ourselves through all this, just follow the desire. Fulfil it! See what happens! Yes, it will put you in uncharted territory and yes it will mean going outside your comfort zone, no question about it. I can assure you though, the dis-ease and discomfort of an unfulfilled desire is way worse than the excited anticipation you will feel when you explore and indulge your desires. It is our desires that are the key to our most passionate and fulfilled existence. Just try it, you can always go back to frustrated and unfilled if you don’t like the experience. (Now I’m being sarcastic).
3. Coach yourself to stay connected to the grandest vision that you have of yourself. It’s the easiest thing you can do. Try it. Close your eyes and visualise the grandest, most brilliant, most extra-ordinary version of yourself. Notice how it feels as you see this exceptional version. Connect into that feeling and then coach yourself on an hourly, daily, weekly and monthly basis to really stay connected to this grand version of yourself. By doing this you will bypass all the reasons and excuses that are part of our normal and habitual ways of being, to always asking “Would the grandest version of myself be doing this? Or feeling like this?” or “Would the grandest version of myself be worrying about that?”. It becomes a way to check in with yourself that you are always living up to the most passionate and fulfilled YOU and - it’s why you’re here!
Passions and gifts are unique to each of us, so thank you Sally, your question is very thought provoking and I’m sure it will be a huge help to our readers.
