COFFEE & a CONVO’
With Leanne, single mum to eleven- year- old Lily
What’s your favourite thing to do with Lily?
Old fashioned roller-skating! She’s really into girly things too so lots of shopping and cafes.
Did becoming a single mum change your career path?
Lily changed my life completely. I didn’t have a career for nine years. In the last few years I’ve come back to myself, regained my confidence and decided to push forward with a business idea that had been sitting with me for a long time.
What’s your business?
www.matchmyride.com.au. You tell us what sort of car you’re looking to buy and the dealers find it for you, all for free! I’ve always loved cars and I saw an opportunity to provide a service for people who didn’t want to go running around looking for cars on their weekends.
What made you decide it was time to change?
I couldn’t find a job that fit in with Lily. I’ve taken a few short-term jobs along the way to keep things rolling along financially, but it’s given me so much flexibility. I’ve also studied a lot and now have a Certificate 2 in Community Services and a Certificate 3 in Micro Business.
Has starting a business been harder than you thought?
When the thing you’re passionate about takes longer than you expected to go from conception to reality, it’s frustrating. You really need to let go of your idea of how it will work and not be afraid to put yourself out there for help. Otherwise you’ll sit in a bubble with a great business concept that will never go anywhere.
What are you most looking forward to right now?
School holidays! Lily and I are going to the Gold Coast. I can’t wait to roller-skate together along the water at Broadbeach.
