Set up a headless music player

Linux Format - - STREAM IT! -

If you’ve added your music library to your Emby server, why not create a small headless Pi-based music box so you can enjoy your music through your home stereo setup? The regular Raspberry Pi models come with a 3.5mm headphone jack you could plug into your stereo using a suitable cable (search www.lindy.

co.uk for part number 35497). Alternatively, pair a Pi Zero or Pi Zero W with a Pi-DACZero ( www.iqaudio.co.uk) for an audiophile-friendly player. You’ll need to install OSMC ( https://

osmc.tv) as your base operating system, but there’s no need to install the Emby add-on too; instead, go to Settings> Services>UPnP/DLNA and make sure ‘Allow remote control via UPnP’ is selected. Once it is, you can go headless.

Next, click the Play On button in your app or web browser and choose the Pi as your playback device. From here, all output should be diverted to your Pi Zero, with your device’s name listed next to the Play On symbol. Click again to disconnect or turn on the remote control, enabling you to control playback aspect including pause, skip and volume.
