We’ve got great news for animation lovers, especially children (and hopefully their parents too). If you feel you’ve overgrown Tuxpaint but still not able to get the best out of pro-level creative software such as Blender, then why not see what TupiTube has to offer.
This is a straightforward program for creating and sharing 2D animations. TupiTube enables you to create simple, hand-drawn animations with its drawing and painting tools, but also manipulate imported artwork. The latter approach is recommended if you want to get going quickly.
For example, you can import a background image in the Static BG Mode and paste another external image file in the Frames Mode. While you can always produce animation using the frame-by-frame method, TupiTube enables you to automate some routines by going with the Tweening tool. This means you can draw a trajectory with some anchor nodes and make your object move smoothly along the line.
The right side of the application window has the vertical Frame bar with a stack of frames of your animation. There are various tools that can help you handle your objects, such as Layers, Opacity Changer, Grouping tool, Ink brush and more. So even a novice can make animated sketches with TupiTube in less than an hour. Depicting real-life creatures such as flying butterflies or walking pets take just a few dozens frames and very little time, especially if you use tweening.
The upper part of the window has three tabs for the main Animation section, a built-in media player for previewing your work, and an optional tabs with the TupiTube Twitter channel feed. Look out for the ‘tips and tricks’ pop-ups that appear each time you launch the program: they’re extremely helpful and often contain sample video tutorials that will get you get acquainted with the application in minutes. You can export your project as a sequence of bitmap images, or as an OGV video file, and share this with family and friends.
