THE REAL MO­TUNUI IS­LAND

Al­though Mo­tunui Is­land is a fic­tional place in the film, it’s part of Poly­ne­sia. Mean­ing “many is­lands” in Greek, Poly­ne­sia is made up of over 1000 is­lands in the Pa­cific Ocean, in­clud­ing Hawaii and New Zealand. The team be­hind Moana cre­ated a group called The Oceanic Story Trust to make sure the movie stayed true to the cul­tures of th­ese spe­cial places. Tahiti They even trav­elled to Fiji, Samoa, the and Bora Bora to learn more about tra­di­tions and mythology!
