To voice Captain Underpants, Ed Helms took inspiration from heroes he watched growing up like Batman, He-Man, Underdog and describes the voice he uses as a “collage” of them all!

There are 12 books in the Captain Underpants book series and the movie includes bits from a whole bunch of the books.

Captain Underpants may look like a baby hero but he has existed for years – author Dav Pilkey created him when he was in second grade!

George and Harold are both based on Dav and Mr. Krupp is based on a really mean principal Dav once had. (But Dav never hypnotised his principal…)

Kevin Hart, who voices George, was also a prankster when he was a kid and Thomas Middleditch, who voices Harold, used to draw comics growing up.

Professor Poopypants was the villain in the fourth CU book.

It took awhile for Dav to agree for his books to become a movie. Dream Works Animation helped convince him by having people walk around with underpants over their clothes when Dav visited the studio. Ha ha!
