Are you ready for some heavy-duty action and epic stunts? Before the Monster Jam tour hits the Australian East Coast this October, we had a chat to Australia’s first female Monster Jam driver, Rhianna Buchanan!
Hi Rhianna! What can we expect to see from you at the Monster Jam events?
It’s going to be a whole lot of fun for the whole family; I’ll be getting some big air, launching over crash cars, throwing dirt around with some doughnuts and doing lots of wheelies. With 10 Monster Jam trucks hitting the stadiums it’s going to be action-packed!
How are you feeling about the event?
I’m so pumped to be diving straight into the deep end on the Australian Monster Jam Tour! Some of the best in the business are competing here, including Adam Anderson (Grave Digger), Neil Elliott (Max-D) and Todd LeDuc (Monster Energy) and of course our other female competitor Candice Jolly (Monster Mutt Dalmatian),
who is always a crowd favourite! It’s going to be tough but my plan is to get out there, give it all I’ve got and make the Aussie fans proud.
How powerful and heavy are the vehicles that you drive?
Our Monster Jam trucks have 1500 horsepower and weigh 5 tonne! They are massive and extremely heavy but fast vehicles too; we are talking about a motor capable of getting us from 0-100 in just 3 seconds.
When you were a kid, what were you interested in?
I was interested in everything as a kid! It was all about exploring and learning and just being out and active. I started dancing at the age of 3, my parents say it was only natural as I never kept still; and
I was riding my little QR50 motorcycle competently at 4 years old. I loved playing any and all sports, was always out exploring nature and have always been kind of obsessed with animals, especially wildlife!
Is Monster Jam your only focus or do you juggle it with other jobs or studying?
Monster Jam is for sure my main focus right now, especially leading up to the Australian Tour but my partner and I also own two companies; we run a small earthmoving business and a large action sports entertainment company… We are always busy; we don’t even have a TV because we never have time to watch it!
