Manch­ester, not Lon­don, was the 19th-century birth­place of veg­e­tar­i­an­ism in Bri­tain and in the 21st century it’s prov­ing to be a cor­nu­copia for ve­g­ans too. The North­ern Ve­gan Fes­ti­val re­turns this April with 200 stalls sell­ing ev­ery­thing from sei­tan steaks (pic­tured top) to ve­gan can­dles, plus cook­ery demos and other events. For a smart din­ner date af­ter the fes­ti­val, stop by the Al­lot­ment Ve­gan Restau­rant in Stock­port for its seven- or 10-course tast­ing menus us­ing sea­sonal pro­duce (pic­tured above).
