Few photographers have had a career to match Irving Penn. He started work for Vogue in 1943 and shot his 165th cover for the magazine in 2004, just five years before his death. Some 240 of his pieces go on show in Berlin this month, from abstract works to portraits of Picasso (right) and other legends.

The Irving Penn Centennial runs 24 March– 1 July 2018 at C/O Berlin (£9; co-berlin.org). Just one block away from the gallery, near Kurfürstendamm, Hotel am Steinplatz is an Art Deco jewel that reinterprets the Berlin of the 1920s (from £175; hotelsteinplatz.com).
