Chandigarh Secretariat by Le Corbusier

Lonely Planet (UK) - - Amazing Architecture -

Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Haryana states, is a great place to change trains between Delhi and the northern hill stations. But linger awhile. Planned by the Swiss-French autocrat-genius Le Corbusier for India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, it is unique in the country: a highly planned symphony of roundabouts, squares and extraordinary buildings. One such is this long, raw-concrete slab punctuated by a grid of brise soleils (sun shades) that keep the interior cool. Outside, Corbu’s Open Hand monument completes the picture. chandigarhtourism.gov.in
