Try Something New: long-distance trails

Lonely Planet (UK) - - Contents -

Of all the means on offer to explore this planet, it’s a bold choice to opt for the most basic. But walking is a great way to reconnect with the experiences of centuries of travellers before you, and might be the only means to see a hidden lake or lost ruin. Not all hikes require tent-pitching skills; for every trail that demands wild camping, there are plenty of others where you end the day under a fixed roof, with a hot meal and a cold beer, and bags delivered by a forwarding service.
