1 From the print fab­ric cut twenty (20) 15½in x 3½in strips and forty (40) 3½in squares.

2 From the solid fab­ric cut twenty (20) 9½in x 3½in strips.

3 From the back­ground fab­ric cut: ■ Twenty (20) 9½in x 3½in strips. ■ Twenty (20) 15½in x 3½in strips. ■ Forty (40) 3½in squares.

4 From the bind­ing fab­ric cut seven (7) 2¼in x WOF strips.

PIEC­ING THE BLOCKS

Take one 3 in print fab­ric square and one 3 in back­ground fab­ric square. Join as shown (Fig A). Press seams to­wards the print fab­ric. Re­peat with the re­main­ing squares to make a to­tal of forty pairs.

Take one 9 in x 3 in solid fab­ric strip and one 9 in x 3 in back­ground fab­ric strip. Join as shown (Fig B). Press seams to­wards the solid fab­ric. Re­peat with the re­main­ing strips to make a to­tal of twenty pairs.

Take two print/back­ground fab­ric pairs and one solid/back­ground fab­ric pair. Join as shown to make one block cen­tre (Fig C). Re­peat with the re­main­ing fab­ric pairs to make a to­tal of twenty block cen­tres.

Take one 15 in x 3 in print fab­ric strip and one 15 in x 3 in back­ground fab­ric strip. Join them to ei­ther side of the block cen­tre to com­plete one block (Fig D). Re­peat to make a to­tal of twenty blocks.

AS­SEM­BLING THE QUILT TOP

Take the blocks and ar­range them into four rows of five blocks each, re­fer­ring to the photo for place­ment. Join the blocks into rows, then join the rows to com­plete the quilt top.

QUILTING AND FIN­ISH­ING

Cut the back­ing fab­ric in half across the width. Re­move the selvedges and re-join the pieces with a in seam. Press the seam open.

Press the quilt top and back­ing well. Make a quilt sand­wich by plac­ing the back­ing fab­ric right side down, the bat­ting on top, then the quilt top cen­trally and right side up. Baste the lay­ers to­gether us­ing your pre­ferred method.

Quilt as de­sired. Jenny quilted straight lines on both sides of the seams be­tween the blocks.

Trim off the ex­cess bat­ting and back­ing fab­ric and square up the quilt. 14

Join the bind­ing strips to­gether end-to-end us­ing di­ag­o­nal seams. Press the seams open and trim away the dog ears, then fold in half length­wise, WST, and press.

Sew the bind­ing to the front of the quilt, fold­ing a mitre at each cor­ner, then fold it over to the back of the quilt and hand stitch in place to fin­ish.
