Take the appliqué scraps and fuse the fusible webbing to the wrong side of each one, following the manufacturer's instructions. Stuart recommends covering the ironing board with baking paper before you start, and placing baking parchment on top of the fabric and webbing before you iron, to prevent any glue from spilling out.
When the fabrics have cooled, use your AccuQuilt GO! Baby machine to cut:
■ Two (2) flower shapes, using the flower die.
■ One (1) flower pot, using the tumbler die.
■ Two (2) flower centres, using the large circle of the owl die.
■ Four (4) leaves, using the wings of the owl die.
Peel the paper backing away.
Take your cut pieces and arrange them on top of the 9 in white background square, referring to the photo for placement. Fuse the pieces in place, referring to the manufacturer’s instructions, to complete the cushion centre.
Using the 2 in strip die, cut:
■ Two (2) 2 in x 42in strips for the outer border. Subcut into two (2)
2 in x 13 in strips and two (2)
2 in x 17 in strips.
■ One (1) 2 in x 42in strip for the inner border. Subcut into four (4)
2 in x 9 in strips.
■ One (1) 2 in x 11in strip for the corner squares. Subcut into four (4) 2 in squares.
Join a 2 in x 9 in inner border strip to each side of the cushion centre. Join a 2 in corner square to either end of the remaining two 2 in x 9 in inner border strips, then join these to the top and bottom of the cushion centre. Press seams towards the strips.
Join the 2 in x 13 in outer border strips to the top and bottom of the inner border strips. Join the 2 in x 17 in strips to each side to complete the cushion top.
Place the batting square on the wrong side of the cushion top and baste in place using your preferred method.
Quilt as desired – Stuart quilted 1/8in inside each of the appliqué shapes and around the border seams using cream thread. Trim the cushion top to 17 in square.
Place the cushion back fabric on top of the quilted cushion top, RST. Pin in place then sew around all four sides, leaving an 8in gap in one side. Clip the corners.
Turn the cushion right side out and press carefully. Inset the cushion pad through the opening, then hand sew the opening closed using an invisible stitch and matching thread to finish.
