Paper piece our blocks inspired by a weekend of woodland foraging!
YOU WILL NEED
■ Background fabric: ½yd
■ Mushroom top fabrics
■ Mushroom stem fabrics
■ Five (5) copies of the Large Mushroom FPP template
■ Four (4) copies each of the Small Mushroom A and B FPP templates
■ Each block: 8in square
■ Row: 8in x 72in
■ Seam allowances are ¼in, unless otherwise noted.
■ Press seams to the side, unless otherwise instructed.
■ Shorten your stitch length to 1.5 for Foundation Paper Piecing.
■ RST = right sides together.
■ WOF = width of fabric.
■ WST = wrong sides together.
■ Templates include seam allowance around the outer edges only. For templates, see p85.

Using the template as a guide, cut the fabric pieces for each section of the FPP template, making sure the pieces will be at least ¼in larger than the section they will cover, all the way around.
PIECING THE ROW
Repeat steps 1–9 of our FPP tutorial to piece one Large Mushroom Block FPP template, sewing the fabrics in place in numerical order. Repeat to piece a total of five Large Mushroom blocks.
Repeat steps 1–7 of our FPP tutorial to piece one each of the Small Mushroom Block Sections A and B FPP templates, sewing the fabrics in place in order.
Arrange the two sections with Section A on the left and Section B on the right. Pin together carefully matching the block edges.
Return your stitch length to its normal length for piecing. Sew the pinned Sections A and B together, then press the seam open. Trim around the outer dashed line of the paper templates.
Remove the templates to complete one Small Mushroom Left block.
Repeat steps 3–6 to make a total of two Small Mushroom Left blocks.
Repeat steps 3–6, this time arranging the sections with Section B on the left and Section A on the right, to make one Small Mushroom Right block. Repeat to make a total of two Small Mushroom Right blocks.
Take the Large, Small Right and Small Left Mushroom blocks and arrange them into a row, alternating them as shown and arranging your prints as desired (Fig 1).
Join the blocks together to complete Row Two, pressing seams open.
