Diabolical double installation

-

I have a late 2012 27-inch iMac, which we use as a general family machine and also for playing games. My sons and I play Diablo III using the same copy of the game, but each with our own user logins on the iMac. Logged in as me, the game works fine, but the boys’ login (which is also administrator) has stopped working. It says “Data required to install this game could not be found. Please try again.” Any ideas? It’s annoying to keep them logging them in via my account all the time. Martin Deneiper I used to see this kind of corrupted install quite a lot when Diablo III first came out, but this is the first time I’ve heard of it since the expansion pack was released (or maybe you’re still playing the original game).

In any case, the solution is to delete the contents of ~/Library/Application Support/ Battlenet. Then delete Applications/Diablo III/Diablo III Launcher.app. If you go to eu.blizzard.com after that and opt to download the game client again, it just downloads the client installer (50MB or so) rather than the full client. The installer fixes your install without redownloading anything (except for maintenance patches), after which the game works once more. It resets the cinematics, so you see the opening cutscene again when the game starts, but don’t panic; your characters are all stored on the server and none of your progress is lost.

?? ?? Clear out your corrupted install files and you’ll soon be back to battling Malthael.
