Burning down the house
Q Is my iPad charger a fire hazard? It seems to get quite warm, even when the iPad isn’t connected. Denise Bryant A All mains transformers use some power even when there’s nothing connected, and this power is dissipated as heat. In a modern power supply, this power draw is miniscule. If yours is noticeably warm, that’s a clue that it’s probably a cheaper, counterfeit charger. Being warm isn’t a fire hazard by itself, but the lower build quality could conceivably result in a short-circuit and cause a fire.
